UGC NET June 2025 Notification & Overview


UGC NET June 2025 is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the posts of Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and Ph.D. admission in Indian universities and colleges. The exam will be conducted in online Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across various cities in India.


The test comprises two papers: Paper I (general teaching/research aptitude) and Paper II (subject-specific), with a total duration of 3 hours. There is no negative marking. Eligibility requires a Master's degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories).

Age Limit for UGC NET June 2025


  1. For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Maximum Age: 30 Years as on 01.06.2025
  2. For Assistant Professor: No Upper Age Limit
  3. For Ph.D. Admission: No Upper Age Limit
  4. Age Relaxation: Up to 5 years for OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / Women applicants
  5. Additional Relaxation:
    • Maximum 5 years for research experience (with certificate)
    • 3 years for LLM degree holders
    • Up to 5 years for Armed Forces service (subject to length of service)

Selection Process for UGC NET June 2025


  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): The UGC NET exam will be conducted in online mode across multiple cities.
  2. Two Papers: Candidates must appear for both Paper I (General Aptitude) and Paper II (Subject-specific). Both papers are conducted in a single session of 3 hours.
  3. No Negative Marking: There is no penalty for wrong answers.
  4. Minimum Qualifying Marks:
    • General Category: 40% aggregate in both papers
    • SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Third Gender: 35% aggregate in both papers
  5. Merit Preparation: Based on aggregate performance in both papers. Only the top 6% of appearing candidates will be declared qualified for eligibility as Assistant Professor.
  6. JRF Selection: Among those qualified, a limited number will be selected for JRF based on merit and age criteria.
  7. Normalization Process: For multi-shift exams, scores are normalized using percentile and equi-percentile methods.
  8. Result Declaration: Final results are based on the final answer key and published on the official NTA website.
  9. Ph.D. Admission: For candidates applying under Ph.D. only category, NET scores carry 70% weightage and 30% comes from viva/interview performance.
